I hope you were able to see the Oprah Winfrey segment which featured Tererai Trent, a magnificent woman from Zimbabwe who had the courage to act on inspiration and “rise from poor cattle herder in Zimbabwe to Ph.D. She first encountered Heifer International when the organization’s president and CEO, Jo Luck, met with a women’s group in Zimbabwe in 1992.
While sitting in a circle in the dirt, Jo Luck encouraged Tererai that her dreams of getting an education were achievable. Even though she had been married off at age 11 and had no resources of her own, Tererai believed Jo Luck’s inspiration, set her intention in secret, and is now in the U.S. completing her Ph.D. and working with Heifer.”
Inspiration is all around us, every day and everywhere. If we take the time to listen, look, feel, and then ask the question “I wonder what I could do with that to make a difference?” Tererai listened, saw and felt that inspiration, decided then and there that she would achieve her dream, wrote it down, buried it under a rock, and with incredible courage, against all odds achieved her goals. She persevered through overwhelming obstacles, worked multiple jobs, raised 5 children, prevailed over abuse and succeeded in achieving her goal of gaining an education….all the way to a doctorate degree.
If we allow the gift of inspiration into our lives we can give flight to all kinds of dreams. Dreams are energy. Inspiration is energy. When we fuel them with belief and action, we can all be as unstoppable as Tererai. Listen to your heart, feel what’s possible, see your intentions playing out and let that energy ignite the inspiration until your dream is a reality. Give the gift of inspiration to your children, siblings, neighbors, workmates, and most especially, to yourself.
Do you have a story of how you took inspiration and made a dream come true? We all need to hear from you – I especially need to hear from you. Please tell us.
